Superintendents Message
District Staff, Parents and Guardians,
As treacherous winter weather threatens northwestern Pennsylvania I would like to remind all parents and guardians to have an emergency plan in place for child care if school is delayed, cancelled or dismissed early because of inclement weather or other unanticipated problems. I urge all parents to be certain they have made provisions for such emergencies when they do not plan to be at home, such as designating a neighbor to receive the child after an early dismissal or having another responsible person in the home.
In all cases of inclement weather, I will make every attempt to decide by 6:00 AM to either delay or cancel school. The School District has established a number of methods to inform parents and guardians as quickly as possible about school delays, closings or early dismissal. The Conneaut School District web site will display a banner at the top of the School District's home page that will state if school has been delayed, cancelled or dimissed early. The School District's mass communication notification system allows me to notify parents and guardians via telephone in cases of school delay, closure, early dismissals or other emergencies. Local radio stations and television stations will also have this information available during the early morning hours.
Parents, guardians, and students should continue to check the Conneaut School District web site, listen to local radio stations and television stations for updated information. It is possible that if unsafe road conditions persist, and after announcing that the School District will have a late start, school could be cancelled. Two (2) hour delays willl be the only delay used by the School District. A final decision on the cancellation of school, after a two (2) hour delay has been instituted, will be made by 7:30 AM.
Conneaut School District is comprised of a total area of approximately 319 square miles. The School District is bordered on the south by Mercer County, on the west by the state of Ohio, on the north by Erie County and on the east by the city of Meadville. Weather conditions may vary throughout the District and the decision to delay, close or dismiss school early may be based on the road conditions in any area of our large School District.
